Cholera Outbreak Confirmed in Birgunj; Schools Closed for Two Days

Rautahat: Cholera bacteria have been detected among diarrhea patients in Birgunj, Parsa, raising health concerns across the city. The outbreak has prompted Birgunj Metropolitan City to close all schools for two days as authorities scramble to contain the spread.

Five New Cases Confirmed

According to Dr. Uday Narayan Singh, Information Officer at Narayani Hospital, out of 15 suspected cases, eight were tested on Saturday, and cholera was confirmed in five of them. All confirmed patients are from Ward No. 12, Murali, Birgunj Metropolitan City.

Cholera infection was earlier confirmed in three individuals on Friday, bringing the total confirmed cases to ten as of Saturday, according to the Health and Social Development Division of Birgunj Metropolitan City.

Deaths Under Investigation

Raju Sah, head of the health division, reported an alarming rise in diarrhea patients since Friday. He revealed that two patients receiving treatment for diarrhea have died, with cholera suspected as the cause. However, confirmation is still pending.

Mayor Inspects Hospitals

Mayor Rajeshman Singh visited various hospitals to review the health status and treatment of patients. Hospitals across Birgunj are currently admitting multiple patients suffering from diarrhea and suspected cholera.

Schools Closed, Health Precautions Urged

In response to the outbreak, Birgunj Metropolitan City has announced the closure of all community and institutional schools under its jurisdiction on Bhadra 8 and 9 (Sunday and Monday).

The Educational Administration Division has issued a public notice urging residents to follow strict health precautions to prevent further cholera transmission.
